Titanic memorial cruise ship’s return delayed by ‘severe weather’

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ ship Balmoral is facing “severe weather” in the Atlantic while sailing back to the UK and its next cruise will be delayed.

The ship, which sailed across the Atlantic on a Titantic memorial cruise, is returning to Southampton for a new departure on Sunday.

Balmoral was due back to the UK from the Titanic charter on Sunday at 7am and then was to leave later in the day on a two week Canary Islands and Madeira itinerary.

But the company issued an alert on its website today saying: “Owing to severe weather conditions currently being experienced by MS Balmoral on her inbound journey to the UK, her arrival into Southampton this Sunday will be delayed.”

The company said further update will be available tomorrow “based on the latest weather conditions and arrival forecast from the Captain”.

Fred Olsen added: “For the moment, and for your own comfort we would strongly recommend that where possible our embarking guests plan to arrive at the Cruise Terminal no earlier than 1530hrs, but prior to 1800hrs.”
