Visitors are returning to Tunisia following last year’s Arab Spring with a 34% rise in travellers from the UK in May to more than 31,000.
The figure was just 14% less than record-breaking number of arrivals seen in May 2010, according to the Tunisian National Tourist Office.
Visitor numbers for 2012 so far are 56.5% up on the same period last year. Irish arrivals are up by 83%.
TNTO UK and Ireland director Wahida Jaiet said: “The UK has proved to be one of our most resilient markets and I’m delighted to see visitors returning to Tunisia in such numbers.
“The Irish market has also displayed great faith in the destination and I’m confident that the UK and Irish markets will continue to grow.
“Now is a great time to visit Tunisia as the country enjoys a new-found freedom and optimism.”
