South Africa sees UK figures double

UK VISITORvolumes to South Africa have more than doubled since the abolition of apartheid, according to South African Tourism’s London office.

Arrivals have risen from 159,600 in 1994 to nearly 321,300 last year – an increase of 101%.

SATOUR’s UK general manager Walter Dammann said: “Political change has opened up South Africa as a destination to the UK market.” SATOUR also reported that UK arrivals for January ’99 were up 23% to more than 35,700.
