Nira Alpina offers photography trip

Swiss hotel photography

Quirky Swiss hotel Nira Alpina is hosting a photography workshop next week.

The two day workshop, hosted by photographers Steve McCurry, Jock Sturges and Amedeo M.Turello, is called Expression of Identity.

Each of the three photographers  will run a half day session on portraiture, figurative and fashion photography at the Surlej hotel during the St Moritz Art Masters 2012.

The three experts will be on hand throughout each workshop, helping students to improve their photography skills and provide them with the inspiration to plan their shots.

The sessions are:
Figurative Expression – August 31 – On the first day Jock Sturges will be offering a figurative workshop, concentrating on the Portrait and the Nude. This demonstration course consists of an in depth engagement with both technical and psychological challenges inherent in the creation of clothed and nude portraits. The main focus of the workshop will be on the relationship in working with models, emphasising the acceptance of poses, as opposed to the imposition of poses. Additionally, students will be taught the technicalities of using a camera intuitively, rapidly and spontaneously.

Perfect Portraiture – August 31 – In the afternoon students will be invited to Portraiture with Steve McCurry. Working with nearly no external equipment apart from his camera, Steve McCurry will portray that the real technique rests in the soul of the photographer.

Fashion Feature – September 1 – On the Saturday there will be a Fashion with Amedeo M.Turello workshop, which will enable non-professionals to work in close proximity with the fashion industry, including access to a team of models, stylists, hair stylists and makeup artists. Turello is a favourite at Nira Alpina, with his work being a permanent centrepiece for the hotel’s art exhibition. His workshop will enable students to get creative for the planning and production of an editorial for a fashion magazine. The workshop is an intense and subjective opportunity to explore new horizons, focusing on the relationship between the subject and the object, as well as the logic and reasoning between commission demands and personal creativity.

Two nights at the Nira Alpina costs CHF710 per person (approx. £464) on B&B basis. This includes workshop entry, a ticket for the St Moritz Art Masters Tribute to Photography night, a VIP bag, use of St. Moritz cable cars and public transport, entry to the Nira Alpina spa and a return transfer from Zurich airport.
