Workarounds found as Brittany Ferries strike disruption continues

Summer timetable ferry sailings from Poole have been extended to help strike-affected Brittany Ferries’ passengers.

Other services from the UK to France and Spain continue to be cancelled today because of the dispute.

Portsmouth services to Caen and from St Malo and Bilbao tomorrow are also suspended.

Condor Ferries will operate the extra services from Poole on Brittany Ferries’ behalf until Friday.

Wildcat strikes by French staff began on September 20 over proposals to withdraw workers’ allowances and change their working hours.

Brittany Ferries said meetings with union officials have taken place but as yet no agreement has been reached and services remain suspended, except the Poole-Cherbourg passenger service.

The company said: “Following the series of strikes which have been disrupting our services to and from France and Spain, meetings with union officials have taken place.”

Discussions continued on Sunday “but as no agreement has yet been reached services remain suspended, except the Poole-Cherbourg passenger service, which is operated on Brittany Ferries’ behalf by Condor Ferries.

“In the meantime we have had to cancel sailings to and from France and Spain.”
