LaSource resort in Grenada is to close on Monday.
A notice on the all-inclusive property’s website confirmed that it is shutting from 12 noon on October 15, “due to unforeseen circumstances”.
The 100-room resort, a popular Caribbean wedding venue, is not accepting any more guests.
The website says: “If you need assistance to re book accommodation on Grenada or another Caribbean Island, due to this closure, please contact us for assistance. We can assist with other hotels and transfer arrangements.”
Elite Island Resorts was hired to provide marketing and representations services for the resort in 2010.
President Steve Heydt told Travel Weekly US: “We are saddened and disappointed that the owners of the resort were not able or willing to do more to keep LaSource open.
“Unfortunately, Elite does not own or manage LaSource, and we are at the whim of the resort’s ownership, along with tour operators and guests who may be negatively affected.”
Elite Island Resorts UK managing director Paula Whitehead said: “We can confirm that on October 9, Elite Island Resorts and Resort Marketing International took the difficult decision to suspend sales, marketing and reservations services for LaSource Resort, Grenada.
“Unfortunately, it appears that the resort’s owners, Liberty Club Ltd., a Grenada company, are facing a number of challenges that will affect the day-to-day operation of the resort.”
She added: “Elite Island Resorts’ priority is our valued travel partners and their clients. Our tour operator partners who have booked guests into LaSource through Elite Island Resorts in the UK, have been kept fully up to date on the current situation and are in contact to discuss arrangements.
“We do not have any further information regarding the future of LaSource at this time. We are hopeful that the resort’s owners will provide further information to the travel trade and the resort’s guests. Likewise, we will keep our travel partners and the resort’s guests informed as more information becomes available.”
