A body found in Tenerife may be that of a missing British tourist, according to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
The alarm was raised when the keen walker and photographer Peter Henley did not return to the UK on December 18 as planned.
His colleagues at the Saga Travel and Insurance office in Folkestone, where he had worked for 28 years, became concerned when he did not turn up to work on the day he was supposed to start again after his trip, and called his family, who in turn contacted the police.
The 50-year-old from Dover, the producer of Saga’s in-house magazine, is said to have been a very popular and well-liked member of staff.
He stayed in the resorts of Puerto de Santiago and Puerto de la Cruz, and had booked further nights at a hotel in Costa de Silencio but failed to check in.
Television, radio and Facebook appeals failed to trace him.
The body of a British man was recovered on Monday from a popular hiking spot near the coast at Los Realejos on the north side of Tenerife, according to reports.
