Thomas Cook boss makes New Year UK infrastructure plea

Thomas Cook chief executive Harriet Green today called for better infrastructure for Britain.

Contributing to business leaders’ new year resolutions in the Express, Green said:

“Last year was momentous for Thomas Cook as we moved this great brand from turnaround to transformation.

“And that was just the start. We have a great new team in place and are ready to drive the transformation forward in 2014.

“On a national level Britain needs to build for the future – literally.

“I hope that in 2014 we make significant progress in establishing the infrastructure the UK needs if it is to generate sustainable growth.

“Without modern infrastructure Britain will not hold its own, let alone prosper.

“With a nationwide retail network of more than 800 stores and strong support of 15 regional airports we are committed to all parts of the UK.”

She revealed that her new year’s resolution is to raise money for the Thomas Cook Children’s Charity by completing a “very personal” challenge.

Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson said he was looking forward to the expected delivery of the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner to Virgin Atlantic “which will radically improve our offer to passengers”.

He is also looking to fly to space with his children when Virgin Galactic launches its first commercial space flights.
