Reuben’s Retreat appeals for help from travel companies

Reuben’s Retreat is appealing to travel companies to choose it as their charity of choice for 2014.

The charity, which was started by former and current industry employees Nicola and Mike Graham following the death of their son Reuben, is hoping to raise £1 million by the end of July 2014 to buy and fund a retreat for families of children with life-threatening illnesses.

So far it has raised more than £500,000 and has had a cash offer accepted on a 1.4 acre site with a 20-bedroom property to use as a retreat.

Project manager Alison Rothwell said the charity had to continue to attract support to make the retreat possible.

She called on companies in the travel industry to choose Reuben’s Retreat as their charity of choice, discuss sponsorship opportunities, and urged employees to consider payroll giving opportunities, which allow them to donate to the charity on a regular basis tax-free in ‘give as you earn’ schemes.

She said: “We are looking for organisations and businesses to use us as their charity of choice for 2014. Also many organisations will have give as you earn schemes.”
