Lufthansa is speeding up a €32 billion fleet modernisation with seven new aircraft joining the group by the end of March.
Three new generation Boeing 747-8s, one Airbus A380, one A330 and two A320s are due for delivery, in addition to subsidiary Germanwings receiving an A319.
The German group expects to receive a total of 23 ultra-modern commercial aircraft this year.
The latest 747-8 – the tenth out of an order of 19 jumbo jets – could start scheduled passenger flights by the end of the month, replacing an older Boeing 747-400 which will be taken out of service.
The new version jumbo jet is claimed to be around 30% quieter than the older model it replaces.
This year’s deliveries are part of a comprehensive fleet modernisation program underway at Lufthansa Group Airlines which will see 261 aircraft delivered by 2025.
A spokesman said: “This highlights the group’s ability to invest continuously in the latest airliners, which offer lower operating costs complemented by improved environmental performance and greatly reduced noise emissions.”
Group chief executive Christoph Franz said: “With these new, state-of-the-art aircraft, we are investing in both passenger comfort for customers and the ecological sustainability of flight operations.
“Lufthansa group employees work hard to ensure the success of our company in a demanding market segment, They are the driving force behind the success of our SCORE modernisation programme.
“We’re now starting to see the fruits of their efforts – and that’s a reason to celebrate.”
