Virgin offers flight switch option due to US weather

Virgin Atlantic is offering passengers due to fly on three transatlantic routes today and tomorrow the option to switch flights due to severe weather forecast for the US east coast.

Those booked on services to and from New York, Washington and Boston have been told they can re-book for a later date due to possible flight disruption.

British Airways cancelled nine transatlantic flights from Heathrow today (Thursday).

The disruption came as more than 3,300 flights in the US were cancelled due to a massive winter storm described by the US National Weather Services as being of “historical proportions” spreading across 22 states from Texas to Maine.

As many as 1,785 Delta Air Lines flights have been cancelled in the US today and 1,200 tomorrow while American Airlines offered free flight changes from more than 20 US airports.

At least 10 people are reported to have been killed as the highly populated region between Washington BC and Boston braced itself for up to eight inches of snow.
