Former Thomas Cook purchasing director joins Minoan

Philip Poile, former group purchasing director at Thomas Cook, has joined growing Scottish travel group Minoan.

The company said Poile’s role will include advising on the potential hotel partners for its project in Crete and the exploration of other hotel opportunities in Greece.

It also annouced that Barry Bartman, group finance director, is to retire from his role from February 28 but will remain on the board as a non-executive director. The group is now looking for a replacement.

Christopher Egleton, Minoan chairman, said: “On behalf of the board I thank Barry for the invaluable contribution he has made to the group during his tenure as finance director, and I am pleased that he will remain on the board as non-executive director so that the group may continue to benefit from his wide experience, knowledge and insight.

“We are delighted that Philip Poile has joined the group. Philip’s background and expertise are a valuable addition to the Minoan management team, particularly in respect of our operations in Greece.”

The planning process for Minoan’s project in Crete has now gone to public consultation, which continues until the end of March.

Egleton added: “In light of the recent progress made, we can move forward with confidence to the next stages of preparing for the onsite development, commercialising and cementing the significant value of the project.”
