Thomson claims first with crowdsourced wedding

Thomson is to become the first UK company to crowdsource a wedding.

The operator has launched a competition this week to find a couple who want to get married in Cyprus this September and are happy to hand over the planning of the occasion to Thomson Holidays’ Facebook community.

Marketing and digital director Jeremy Ellis said: “Crowdsourcing a wedding is a first for the UK, a first for Thomson and a first for the holiday industry.”

On #WeddingWednesdays, the company will call on its Facebook followers – it now has more than one million – to choose everything from the bride’s dress to the flowers, colour theme, stag and hen parties, and the first dance song.

The wedding will take place at the Thomson Platinum Athena Beach Hotel, Cyprus, with flights, transfers, accommodation, all-inclusive board and a wedding breakfast included. The winning #YourBigDay couple will also share their wedding planning journey via regular posts on the Thomson blog.

The closing date for couples to enter the competition is May 12 and a panel of judges will then choose the lucky pair. For more information, go to Facebook.com/thomsonholidays.
