UK tour operators are being urged to include a resurgent downtown area of Miami in their product and packages.
Speaking at the IPW conference in Chicago, Sonja Bogensperger of the Miami Downtown Development Authority said many UK suppliers had responded positively to meetings during the show.
“When you think of Miami, you usually think of Miami Beach and don’t consider the city across the bay,” she said.
“But Miami is a totally different city than it was 10 years ago, and by restricting themselves to the Miami Beach area, tour operators and their customers are missing out on a great deal.”
Bogensperger said a number of UK suppliers had committed to sending product managers to downtown Miami to assess a range of new luxury hotels and attractions, including a new performing arts centre and the Perez Art Museum.
She added: “Customers need to know about visiting Little Havana or the Wynwood arts district to add something different to the Miami Beach experience.”
