Passengers using the Channel Tunnel were facing lengthy disruption today after a shuttle train reportedly broke down.
The Eurotunnel passenger shuttle train, which was heading to France, came to a halt about a quarter of the way through the tunnel after a problem with the overhead power line, Sky News reported.
Some 382 passengers and four dogs were taken off the train and then transported to the French terminal.
Services through the tunnel, using one of the two running tunnels, were able to continue.
But Eurotunnel warned services were being delayed, with hold-ups possibly lasting for the rest of the day,
A waiting time of approximately 60 minutes before check in for Le Shuttle services and five hours in the terminal at Folkestone was reported on the company’s website.
There was a waiting time of about 90 minutes before check in and 90 minutes on the terminal for those travelling from France.
“Our passenger service is currently operating with some timetable disruption – this is due to an incident in the tunnel which is in the process of being resolved,” Eurotunnel said.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this will cause to your journey.”
