Specialist coach and holiday tour operator Hatts Coaches has ceased trading.
The firm, based in Devizes and Salisbury, has called in financial restructuring experts FRP Advisory as administrators.
The group’s holiday coach tours division HQT Ltd it not thought to be a member of Abta or to have any bonding to protect customer payments.
Coach tours and day trips already booked will be cancelled, although the administrators said they are hopeful of finding an alternative firm to operate them.
A statement from FRP said the group had been struggling with unsustainable cash-flow pressures for several months.
Attempts to obtain investment to safeguard a long-term future for the businesses in the group as going concerns had failed to materialise.
The administrators are continuing to operate Park & Ride services in Salisbury and a bus service in Pewsey Vale while another operator is sought.
However, the remainder of the group’s businesses have ceased trading with immediate effect, resulting in 89 staff being made redundant in Chippenham, Devizes and Salisbury.
The administrators said they will be liaising with customers who have booked holidays or coach trips. They have been advised to contact their credit card issuers.
There is a helpline (0800 4704633) for customers who have paid in full or just initial deposits to get advice on their rights under the Consumer Credit Act.
Hatts’ origins date back to 1928 under the same Hillier family ownership for four generations. The group’s principal trading business is bus and coach operator Hatts Coaches.
HQT Limited has a direct mailing list of around 3,500 customers and distribution arrangements with some travel agents but has no direct employees.
The company pays for hotels on pre-booked holiday tours while transport arrangements are fulfilled at an operational level by Hatts Coaches.
Andrew Sheridan, partner at FRP Advisory and joint administrator, said: “It is deeply regrettable and sad for all concerned that the majority of Hatts operations should have to stop trading. The businesses simply ran out of cash.
“We are acutely aware of the distress and hardship many holidaymakers and day-trippers will be suffering right now particularly as so many of these are of an older generation.
“Our priority right now is to contact and provide dedicated helpline support for those members of the general public who have paid for holidays, day trips and other private hire with Hatts.
“We will ensure that they are advised of their statutory rights under the Consumer Credit Act where, in the first instance, if they have paid by credit or debit card they should make contact with their card providers.
“At the same time we will be ensuring that the 89 employees who have lost their jobs are provided with the necessary support to make timely claims from the Redundancy Payments Service for any entitlements they have for unpaid wages, holiday pay, notice pay and redundancy.”
