Mr and Mrs Smith seek new investors

Hotel booking site Mr & Mrs Smith is reported to be searching for fresh investors after moving into the black for the first time.

The business is understood to be looking to raise several million pounds to ramp up international expansion after opening in New York, Hong Kong and Melbourne, according to The Sunday Times.,

The company has hired the advisory firm Raymond James to assess its funding options.

These could include an alliance with a rival or a sale.

Mr & Mrs Smith makes money by taking commission from hotels listed on its site.

In 2012 it posted losses of £1.3 million after generating £28 million of bookings. Since then, annual revenues have doubled and the company is in profit.

Husband-and-wife team James Lohan and Tamara Heber-Percy, founded the website and publisher in 2003 after a string of disappointing weekends away.

They remortgaged their home in Chiswick, west London, and raised £180,000 from family and friends to start the business.
