The Institute of Travel & Tourism has chosen the small Emirate of Ras al Khaimah as the host destination for its annual overseas conference next year.

It will mean a return to the Middle East for the ITT which held the event in Abu Dhabi in 2013, Dubai in 2009, Oman in 2007 and Qatar in 2004.

The destination will suit headline sponsor Gold Medal Travel which signed a two-year deal with the ITT last year, stepping into the shoes of Stella Travel Services which had been headline sponsor previously.

Then venue was unveiled at ITT’s annual President’s Dinner at The Dorchester in London on Wednesday night.

Steven Freudmann, chairman and chief executive of the ITT, said: “The ITT Conference will be taking place in Ras al Khaimah at the Waldorf Astoria which is a hugely prestigious hotel.

“They are going to allow the ITT to take it over for five days in June. It’s a magnificent hotel and a fascinating destination, which for most delegates will be their first visit. It’s perfect too for our headline sponsor Gold Medal Travel which features the destination.

“It’s great for the ITT to be innovative and break new ground as no other UK travel conference has been there before. We are hugely excited.”

Delegates will fly to Dubai then take a 50-minute transfer to Ras al Khaimah.
