Details of new Flybe routes revealed

A series of routes are to be opened by Flybe from Bournemouth airport by next summer.

The regional airline is to start Glasgow flights in March followed by Amsterdam, Manchester and Paris Charles de Gaulle in May.

Flybe will also serve French and Spanish sun destinations, with routes to be announced in the coming weeks.

The carrier will run twice-daily frequencies to Glasgow and Manchester, plus four weekly flights to Amsterdam and Paris.

The move will potentially bring an extra 300,000 passengers and up to 50 new jobs, according to the airport.

The airline’s first routes from Stansted will be a twice-daily service to Newcastle, three flights a day to the Isle of Man and a summer service to Newquay.

Exeter-based Flybe is also the main carrier at Southampton, which is less than 30 miles from Bournemouth airport.

Flybe started a daily service to Manchester from Bournemouth in May 2010 but suspended flights six months later due to a lack of demand.

Ken O’Toole, chief commercial officer of Bournemouth, Stansted and East Midlands airports parent company Manchester Airports Group, said: “There are more than 42 million UK residents living in close proximity to either Manchester, Stansted, East Midlands and Bournemouth airports. Today’s announcement by Flybe will give further choice and options for passengers who wish to fly from a MAG airport.

“With more than 45 million people already flying annually from our airports, including three million Flybe passengers, this announcement further confirms the critical role MAG plays in UK aviation, and how existing available capacity across UK airports can support the ambitions of airlines looking to grow in London and beyond.”

Bournemouth airport managing director Paul Knight said: “The new routes to Manchester, Amsterdam and Paris are perfect for a mix of leisure and business passengers, looking to connect to these major hubs for meetings and short breaks.

“Most importantly, this is excellent news for our local tourism industry as the routes will attract a significant number of visitors coming into this area on holiday.”

Bournemouth airport, which opened a new £45 million terminal in 2010, is mainly used by Ryanair and Thomson Airways.
