Thomson Airways runs Instagram competition to name new Dreamliner

Thomson Airways is turning to Instagram to find a name for its sixth Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The move follows the Tui Travel carrier becoming the world’s first to crowdsource a name for its first 787 on Twitter last year.

Thomson Airways is inviting Instagram users to capture and share images of the new aircraft to be in with a chance of having the aircraft named after them.

With more than 200,000 passengers set to fly long-haul on its Dreamliner fleet this winter, holidaymakers can take images wherever they spot any Dreamliner or travel on one to destinations such as Mexico, Jamaica and Thailand.

Photos can be captured in or around a 787 and shared on either the @thomsonholidays or @firstchoiceholidays Instagram accounts with the tag #787pics.

The initiative, which runs from November 14 until January 14, will see the winner have their first name applied to the new aircraft and a holiday to Mauritius.

Entries will be judged by Instagram photographer Jess MacDonald (@miss_jess) and a panel of judges from the airline.

A shortlist of the five best images will then be posted on the Thomson and First Choice Facebook pages on January 16 and the one with the most likes from the community by January 19 will be announced the winner.

Thomson Airways has painted #787pics on the side of the aircraft so holidaymakers will be able spot it.

Airline managing director, John Murphy, said: “We love the idea of each 787 having its own identity and using innovative ways to find a name.

“Using Instagram to name the latest addition to our 787 fleet is an industry first and I’m looking forward to seeing some incredible photographs.”

The airline will take delivery of three more Dreamliners next year, and is adding two more before 2018.
