British Airways aircraft makes two unscheduled landings in three days

A British Airways aircraft has been checked for faults after its crew twice had to make unscheduled landings in the space of three days.

On both occasions the Boeing 777 had to land at Shannon airport in Ireland due to what BA described as technical issues.

In the first incident on Friday the aircraft was flying from Heathrow to Boston when it put down at Shannon. The aircraft carried on to Boston after being checked.

The same 777, with 220 passengers aboard, left Seattle for Heathrow when it again had to divert to Shannon where it landed just before 10.30am on Sunday.

The passengers were flown back later on a replacement flight, with the 777 being checked over.

A BA spokeswoman said the first incident had occurred due to a “suspected technical issue,” the Telegraph reported.

Of the second incident, the spokeswoman said: “Our flight diverted to Shannon due to a minor technical issue and our cabin crew looked after the customers on board.

“Safety is always our first priority, and the aircraft diverted purely as a precaution.”

The flight did not declare an emergency and operations were reported to be normal at all times throughout the incident.
