A record of almost one million passengers are due use Gatwick over the Valentine’s and half-term period.
The estimated 982,000 for the period between February 13 and 22 would represent a 96% increase on last year.
Numbers for the Valentine’s Day weekend alone are expected to be up by 7.9% to more than 400,000.
The ski hub of Geneva is the most popular destination for the third year running followed by Barcelona, Dublin, Amsterdam, Tenerife, Madrid, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Dubai and Belfast
Operations manager Nick Pope said: “The figures released today show record numbers will be travelling through the airport during the upcoming Valentine’s weekend and half-term, and we look forward to welcoming passengers and helping them enjoy the experience of travelling through Gatwick.
“£1 billion of improvements to facilities across check-in, bag drop, security, retail and dining have seen the airport go from strength to strength and we are delighted to say that passengers are spoilt for choice in what they do here.”
