THIRTY operators have been criticised in the report for ignoring the health and safety of their customers.
It revealed that one in four of the 112 operators quizzed inspect fewer than 10% of their brochured accommodation each year. The report branded the operators as “reckless.”
“More than 40% inspect less than half their properties on an annual basis but even more alarming was that almost a quarter inspect fewer than 10%,” the report stated. “We believe companies in this latter category are acting in a reckless manner when considering the welfare of their customers.”
It said the operators risked “enormous litigation costs.”
n Less than half the number of operators quizzed believe ABTA influences legislation. The same number believing the Association of Independent Tour Operators has similar clout.
