Cunard passenger dies after accident in Cambodia

Cunard has confirmed that a passenger on the ship Queen Elizabeth has died in an accident.

The unnamed passenger was reportedly boarding the ship from a tender boat in Sihanoukville in Cambodia.

The vessel is on a 112-night world cruise which left Southampton on January 10.

Cunard said yesterday: “We can confirm that very sadly a passenger died earlier today following an accident whilst boarding Queen Elizabeth from a tender.

“Two of our crew members reacted very quickly and jumped in to rescue her. She was then taken to the medical centre but despite our very best efforts she died.

“Our customer care team is fully involved and will be offering every support including to those passengers who witnessed the incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.”

No further details about the incident were made available.

The ship is continuing on its voyage and is due to arrive into Singapore tomorrow (Friday).
