WTTC Summit: WTTC hails new postgraduate school in Mallorca

The WTTC has endorsed the establishment of a new travel and tourism business academy in Mallorca.

The JSF Travel and Tourism School is due to open in September 2016 and will provide postgraduate and executive education.

Set up by the Mallorca-based Junipero Serra Foundation, the school has the backing of more than 25 corporations including the Hotelbeds Group, Barcelo Group, Iberostar Hotels and Resorts and Riu Hotels and Resorts.

It also has the backing of the WTTC, the UN World Tourism Organisation and the Universia network of universities.

The main campus of the school will be in Mallorca, with Palma at its centre, and the University of the Balearic Isles will develop the its academic activities in collaboration with the school advisory board.

WTTC president and chief executive David Scowsill said: “We are delighted to support the creation of this new international academy which counts a significant number of international leaders within the tourism sector among its sponsors.

“Providing the best training and education, delivered by the most reputable professionals, is key to the sector’s development, growth and competitiveness.”

Junipero Serra Foundation president Jaime Fluxa said: “We see a need to transition towards new approaches that incorporate the required academic rigour to respond to the leadership requirements of the tourism industry.

“With the creation of the JSF Travel and Tourism School, we want to play a fundamental role in education in every area of the tourism industry.”
