Bali is facing flight delays and cancellations due to volcanic ash from an eruption on an adjoining island.
Indonesia’s volcanology agency reported seven eruptions by Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki on the island of Flores last Thursday, with the most powerful ejecting a giant column of ash five miles into the air.
Authorities imposed an exclusion zone of more than four miles around the volcano on the island.
The UK Foreign Office updated its travel advice to warn of reported flight disruptions at Bali international airport due to volcanic ash from Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki on Flores Island.
The alert said: “Check with your airline for updates. If your flight is affected, contact your airline and your travel insurer for alternative travel and accommodation arrangements.”
The airport’s departures and arrivals board shows a number of flights cancelled today (Wednesday) “due to volcano” including services from Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia advised passengers of disruption.
