Tui UK and Ireland managing director Neil Swanson has been appointed to Abta’s board of directors.
Abta’s board comprises individuals elected by fellow members to represent businesses of different sizes and, as in the case of Swanson, people who have been appointed to the board from both inside and outside of the travel industry.
Swanson was appointed managing director of Tui in October 2024, having started his career with the tour operator in 2001, which saw him launch the first websites for the Lunn Poly and Thomson brands.

This was followed by various ecommerce sales and development roles before taking up the position of chief marketing officer in 2023.
Swanson said: “I’m honoured to join the Abta board of directors at this exciting time for the travel industry.
“Having been part of Tui’s journey for over two decades, I’ve witnessed firsthand the evolving landscape of travel and the crucial role Abta plays in supporting and safeguarding our sector.
“I’m looking forward to working collaboratively with the Abta team and fellow board members, as our shared commitment to excellence and customer service mean we can make progress tackling industry challenges, embrace new opportunities, and ensure the UK travel sector continues to thrive.”
Abta chairman Alistair Rowland said: “I am delighted to welcome Neil onto the Abta board on behalf of my fellow Abta board members.
“His expertise and the in-depth experience he has gained in the travel industry and the wider commercial sector will be invaluable as we continue to look at ways to enhance our services to members and safeguard their interests in our dealings with leading decision makers.”
