Air India suspends Gatwick-Kochi flights as frequencies rise elsewhere

Air India is adding frequencies but dropping a UK route as part of its schedule for the northern hemisphere summer.

A non-stop Gatwick-Kochi route is being suspended from March 30 “until further notice”.

This is as a result of a temporary reduction in the fleet arising from an aircraft retrofit programme, according to the airline.

The airline said: “Retrofit of the legacy Boeing 777 fleet with new seats and entertainment systems, originally due to commence in 2025, will now commence in early 2026 due to production constraints at the selected seat supplier.

“In the meantime, Air India is taking the opportunity to refresh as many other elements of the B777 interiors as feasible during 2025, ahead of the full retrofit programme.”

The airline will continue to operate 12 flights a week from Gatwick to Amritsar, Ahmedabad and Goa.

Changes for the summer schedule will see more flights from Heathrow, Gatwick and Birmingham.

Frequency between Heathrow and Delhi will rise Fromm 21 to 24 flights a week using a combination of upgraded Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A350-900s (pictured).

The Amritsar service from Gatwick will go up from three to four flights a week while Ahmedabad sees frequency rise from three to five weekly flights.
