Improved Leeds Bradford-Southampton air link planned from September

An improved air link between Yorkshire and Southampton targeting business travellers and cruise passengers has been scheduled for later in the year.

Regional carrier Eastern Airways is increasing frequency on the Leeds Bradford to Southampton route from three to four flights a day on weekdays.

An additional early afternoon service will run year round from September 14 with a 12.15pm departure from Southampton, arriving in Yorkshire at 1.25pm.

The return flight departs from Leeds Bradford at 2.50pm, arriving in Southampton at 4pm.

The extra flights will complement existing 8.20am, 4.30pm and 6.35pm services from Southampton and 6.40am, 10.35am and 5.05pm departures from Leeds Bradford.

A Sunday service leaves Leeds Bradford at 4.50pm, and Southampton at 6.45pm.

Eastern Airways’ commercial director, Kay Ryan, said: “We are providing greater flexibility for business travellers with the increase in services to four flights each weekday between these two important business centres.

“The introduction of the afternoon service allows us to offer more choice and is a quicker, more convenient alternative to road or rail.”

Jan Halliday, Southampton airport’s director of marketing and communications, said: “This additional daily service will make life easier for business people travelling between the two regions.

“It is also likely to be popular with cruise passengers from the north of England who join their ships in the port of Southampton.”
