THOMAS Cook tour operations managing director Simon Vincent has predicted widespread overbooking this year and warned Spanish hoteliers they could destroy confidence among British holidaymakers.
He said political developments in Europe, particularly the Kosovo crisis and terrorism threats in Turkey, have forced holidaymakers to move away from Greece and Turkey in favour of Spain.
But he said holidaymakers who find themselves overbooked in Spain this summer will be put off returning to the destination in future years.
He said:”The potential for overbooking in the peak season is particularly significant. Overbookings will destroy the confidence of the British holiday-buying public in the Spanish product faster than anything else.”
