Government accused of ignoring tourism

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport will this week be accused of ignoring tourism.

A delegation led by the British Hospitality Association (BHA) is expected to say that media and the creative industries receive disproportionate attention from the department, while tourism is overlooked, the Sunday Times reported.

The BHA is lobbying for greater support and recognition of its contribution to the economy.

Calls will be made for a dedicated tourism minister and more talks on key issues such as implementation of the living wage.

Tracey Crouch (pictured), the current minister responsible for tourism, also has sport and heritage as part of her portfolio.
