Tourist bitten by shark while swimming off Gran Canaria

A Spanish tourist has described how she was bitten by a shark while swimming off Gran Canaria on Christmas Day.

Cristina Ojeda-Thies, from Madrid, posted pictures of her injuries on Twitter following the attack which she described as no more painful than falling off a bike, but still frightening.

According to reports, experts believe the culprit may be a silky shark that can grow up to 10 feet in length and are known to be dangerous.

The Times said local authorities have played down the incident as a one-off.
