An information leaflet designed to lower the amount customers claim in financial compensation for unsatisfactory holidays has been approved by ABTA’s Travel Agents’ Council.
It was also expected to get the seal of approval from Tour Operators’ Council at its meeting last Friday. ABTA chief executive Ian Reynolds said one-quarter of clients who complain now claim a full refund for their holiday. Of those, just 6% are awarded the full amount and 17% get nothing.
“It is not enough for people to say they didn’t enjoy their holiday,” said Reynolds.
“This leaflet will put claims into perspective by advising clients what they can claim for and how to work out the cost.”
Reynolds said he wants the leaflet, expected to cost a few thousand pounds, to be ready for September. It will be paid for from ABTA funds.
