n ITT looks to 2000



The Institute of Travel Tourism has drawn up a shortlist of destinations for its 2000 conference next May. Both Tunisia and Poland are shortlisted, but it is also thought that the ITTis considering another US destination after last week’s conference in Newport, Rhode Island.



n Beachsafe an asset



A group of businessmen including Travel Protection Group chairman David Hall and former Lincoln Travel managing director Bryn Jones claim to have developed a revolutionary new safe deposit box which holidaymakers can use to secure valuables on the beach. BeachSafe is being marketed to tour operators, which will be expected to pay £29.99 for boxes and then they will rent them out to clients.



n SCB leads delegates



The Scottish Convention Bureau is leading a delegation of 22 industry partners to the European Incentive and Business Travel Meetings Exhibition. The three-day Geneva show starts tomorrow.



n BA awaits Bid result



Secretary of state for trade and industry Stephen Byers is expected to reveal if British Airways wassuccessful with its £75m bid for Cityflyer next week. Byers is studying a report on BA’s proposals after the Competition Commission called in the offer.



n flightlink speeds up



Coach operator Flightlink launches 11 daily non-stop return services between Birmingham and Heathrow next Monday. The Heathrow Direct service cuts 45mins off current Flightlink journeys. Tickets, bookable with packages through viewdata, start from £27 for a return ticket and 15 days’ parking.
