Norwegian is to offer flights from Edinburgh to New York for under £60 – however the airline has yet to confirm which of the Big Apple’s ‘secondary airports’ it will serve after confirming it would not be JFK.
The new flights will lead in at £56 one-way and will be available from summer 2017.
Norwegian had previously announced its plans to serve the US east coast from Edinburgh and Manchester as part of significant expansion plans from the UK, with two of six new Boeing 737MAX aircraft initially earmarked for the Edinburgh service. However, a report in The Telegraph yesterday suggests all six new aircraft will be based outside London, with the low fares available only from Edinburgh.
Chief executive Bjorn Kjos said the delivery of the 737MAX in April would allow the carrier to serve the route more efficiently.
He added: “We’ll also be flying to secondary airports in New York. That means we don’t pay as much and can charge cheaper fares.”
