Specialists move into uncharted territory

GOLF breaks, yacht charters, diving and salsa dancing holidays are just a few of the activities being offered by specialist operators to Cuba this year.

Middlesex-based operator Travelcoast has added a number of unusual options to its latest Captivating Cuba programme. A former mansion in Varadero is being offered as an upmarket base for golf enthusiasts wanting to play the beachside Varadero Golf Club.

In addition, Travelcoast is the only UKoperator currently brochuring yacht charter in Cuba. Clients can charter a fully-crewed six-berth yacht to explore Cuba’s offshore islands and reefs with prices from ú450 per person for a three-night charter.

Cuba is establishing itself as a dive destination and Travelcoast has responded by including dive packages at the Villa Guajimico, midway between Trinidad and Cienfuegos on Cuba’s southern coast.

This option will also be included for the first time in Regal Diving Holidays’ 1999/2000 brochure being launched in July. The resort is operated by French company UCPAwhich specialises in scuba and watersports holidays. Also new for the dive specialist will be six-night packages in Cayo Largo. As well as a liveaboard option, Regal offers five-day land-based dive packages at the Isle of Youth, Maria la Gorda on Cuba’s southwest tip and Ancon close to the city of Trinidad.

Lead in for a five-day dive package with six nights’ full-board accommodation, flights and transfers is ú889 which compares to a lead in of ú939 for an equivalent room-only package in the Cayman Islands.
