n London city wins 1999 achievement award
London City has become the first airport to berecognised for itscontribution to exports by the Queen’s Award for Industry, picking up the Export Achievement 1999 award. Its growth in the year to September 1998, which mean it now offers 23destinations in 10European countries were taken into account.

Aerolineas Argentinas has bought 12 long-haul Airbus A340s at a cost of $1.7bn. The new three-classaircraft will be used to serve Europeandestinations from May 27. Deliveries are due to be complete by 2002.

Manchester has come third in the International Air Transport Association’s 1998 airport survey. IATA questioned 77,000passengers about thefacilities at 65 airports. Manchester came first for car parking and second for friendliness of staff.Singapore’s Changi Airport came top overall and Helsinki was second.

Charter aircraft provider Flight Time International has expanded its sales force with the opening of offices in Milan andAmsterdam. The expansion comes just 10 months after the US firm opened its first London office. To meet the growth, Flight Time has taken on former STA Travel sales andproduct manager Terje Tjostolvsen as European sales manager.
