CLUBTravel 2000 attem-pted to hoodwink agents on April Fool’s Day by launching a brand new charter flight service for holidaymakers known as Pub Class.
This previously untried concept would be available on most of the company’s flights to Spain and the Canaries, according to 2,500 faxes sent out by the Sale-based tour operator.
“Free in-flight entertainment includes darts, full-size pool table, shove ha’penny, dominoes, card games and arm wrestling – plus in-flight karaoke!” it stated.
The attractions of pub catering were not forgotten, with a pub grub menu and real cask ales.
Around 200 agents responded to the promotion, but only to crack jokes, not because they were duped, according to a Club Travel 2000 spokeswoman.
“We had one agent who claimed he wanted to make bookings for a George Best and an Oliver Reed on the inaugural flight,” she said.
