Holiday Helpline: Greece

We asked three operators – Priceright Holidays, Unijet and Sunworld – to come up with a recommendation and sample price for three sets of clients who have special requests for a holiday in Greece


Request 1:


A middle-aged amateur historian and his wife want to spend two weeks exploring the heritage and monuments of Greece.They do not mind what time of year they travel.


Sunworld


Area: Evia and classical tour.


Product: The second largest of the Greek islands off the north coast of the mainland is a modern resort with easy access to ancient Greek sites. Fly to Athens and transfer to the four-star Eretria Village in Evia. Spend the first week relaxing and taking excursions to the nearby sites. Join a Classical Greece Coach Tour for the second week to explore Athens, the Royal Palace, the Sanctuary of the Olympic Zeus, Castalia Spring in Delphi and the Sanctuary of Apollo Mythios.


Cost: Seven nights at the Eretria Village costs from £369 per person. The coach tour will cost from £489 in May, June or September, or from £549 in higher-standard accommodation.


Unijet


Area: Halkidiki.


Product: Halkidiki is a relatively uncommercialised region near many ancient treasures. Travel in May or June when the climate is cooler and stay at the four-star Hotel Pallini Beach, Kalithea. It operates on a half-board basis and combined with a hire car allows clients the freedom to sightsee and experience local culture, cuisine and nightlife.


Cost: Two weeks at the Hotel Pallini Beach in May costs from £459. Car hire with Suncars costs £125.


Priceright Holidays


Area: Rhodes.


Product: Travel off peak in April or May. Lindos in Rhodes is so beautiful and historic it has been designated an archaeological site. Stay at the Lindos Mare Hotel and explore Rhodes Town, the mythical Colossus, ancient Mandraki harbour and the walled city.


Cost: Two weeks at the Lindos Mare Hotel in May is £637 per person half-board. Self-catering in Lindos from £209 a week in May.


Request 2: Our second couple have visited several Greek islands before on holiday with their parents but are now taking their first holiday together. Aged 18 and 20 they want sun, fun and a little romance at a low-cost price. Departure dates flexible.


Sunworld


Area: Zante.


Product: The liveliest time to go is July or August. Zante is an adults’ playground – plenty of glorious golden beaches and lots of evening entertainment. Stay in Laganas at the Hotel and Apartments Alexander, or the Victoria Hotel, for a great base from which to access the town’s main square and nightlife. Don’t miss the Jazz Café, a disco bar specialising in house and techno music.


Cost: July prices at the Alexander, self-catering, start from £399 per person, for two weeks. The Victoria costs from £479 per person for two weeks, bed and breakfast.


Unijet


Area Kos.


Product: A sunny climate and vibrant bustling resorts.Travel in June and stay at the Kalia Studios and Apartments in Kardmena – one of the island’s most popular resorts, with a long, sandy beach, plenty of watersports, shops, bars, restaurants and nightlife. The studios are good quality and have access to a shared pool.


Price: Studios start at £245 per person per week.


Priceright Holidays


Area: Kavos in Corfu.


Product: Ideal for young sun worshippers who want some nightlife. Stay at the Calypso studios and apartments, just a short walk from the resort centre and the beaches. Kavos is a real party destination with many bars, tavernas and nightclubs and also boasts a long sandy beach perfect for a snooze, a cuddle and a romantic walk at dusk.


Cost: Two weeks self-catering at the Calypso studios and apartments costs £259 per person in June.


Request 3: The third couple are looking for a hassle-free fortnight on the beach with their three young children. They want minimal transfers and self-catering accommodation within easy reach of an uncrowded beach and welcoming tavernas, during the school summer holidays.


Sunworld


Area: Rhodes.


Product: A blend of ancient and modern with excellent beaches. Would recommend a hotel rather than self-catering, as clients get the benefit of the Sunworld Kids World programme. If insistent on self-catering, the Apartment Blue Bay Complex in Trianta is great for families and only 20mins transfer from the airport.


Cost: Late July departures to the Blue Bay Complex will cost the family £1,943 for two weeks.


Unijet


Area: Zakynthos.


Product: For sandy beaches, great family entertainment and spectacular scenery. Stay at the Daisy Studios and Apartments at Kalamaki – just 20 mins transfer from the airport. This self-catering accommodation is relaxed and family friendly and has a pool. The resort centre, long sandy beach and supermarkets are all close by.


Cost: The total family price for two weeks in a two-bedroom Daisy apartment in August starts at £1,728.


Priceright Holidays


Area: Mykonos.


Product: Pick the west coast for peaceful, relaxing resorts, with gently shelving beaches, ideal for children. Stay at the Gelous Studios and Apartments with a fun, family-run atmosphere. Situated just 500 metres from the beach and a number of tempting tavernas, this property is just 2.5km from Mykonos Town and the airport transfer time is just 20mins.


Cost: Total family price for two weeks’ self-catering in a two bedroom apartment departing July 28 is £2,025.
