Asia addition should encourage visitors to stay a little longer

THE OPENING ofWalt Disney World’s latest attraction, Asia, is expected to increase further the average length of stay of UKvisitors.

The 500-acre site in Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park is devoted to the wildlife and rainforests of south Asia.

Manager for UK travel industry sales, Kevin Brett, said: “We are experiencing a growth in the number of days British people are visiting Disney World and that increase is due in part to the opening of Animal Kingdom last year. The new Asia section will enhance that. It will also draw morevisitors.”

His comments are backed up by figures from ticket agent Keith Prowse Attractions where the continued expansion of Disney World is helping to drive sales.

Managing director Deirdre Finnigan expects bookings to reach the 2m mark by the end of 1999.

“We are experiencing a bumper year. We are currently 100%up on 1998,” said Finnigan. The second edition of Keith Prowse Attractions’ 1999 brochure, will feature tickets to La Nouba, the stage performance by Cirque du Soleil at a new 1,671 seat theatre in Downtown Disney.

Another major development is Test Track at Epcot, a new ride designed and built in association with General Motors (see story , above).

Senior vice-president, sales and travel operations for Walt Disney Attractions, Randy Garfield, said new attractions were also planned.
