Atlantis branches out into flycruise business

ATLANTIS Cruising, the new tour operating division of London travel agent Atlantis Travel, has published its first flycruise brochure in partnership with Star Cruises.

The publication features two ships operated by the Singapore-based Star Cruises – SuperStar Gemini and SuperStar Leo.

SuperStar Gemini operates seven-night itineraries out of Singapore to destinations including Phuket and Malacca. Prices start at ú1,180 per person. SuperStar Leo carries out a three-night itinerary in the China Sea. The two cruises can be combined into a 13-night flycruise package costing from ú1,387.

Atlantis’ tour operating division was set up in November by product development manager Vic Howlett, who was formerly operations director at Celebrity Cruises.

“Atlantis wanted to develop this side of the business,” he said. “In the first year we would like to take 400-500 bookings in order to cover costs and give us a return.”

Howlett said the company had chosen to sell Star Cruises’ product because it was seeking a to fill a niche in the cruise market. “Star Cruises has a good product that deserves wider coverage than it gets at present,” he said.

The partnership with Star Cruises is open-ended, and could be expanded next year if it proves successful, according to Howlett.

Meanwhile, he is searching for other cruise product to sell in future brochures.

“There are several options. We are looking for a cruiseline that is not heavily promoted in the UK. It also needs to have a quality product,” he said.

Atlantis has produced 11,000 brochures featuring Star Cruises, which are being distributed to Atlantis Travel customers and nearly 40 other travel agents. To obtain a copy of Atlantis Cruising’s brochure, call 0181-559 9007.
