Transatlantic boss Medhurst behind revival of Ticketshop
HOTELSHOP and Ticketshop have been acquired by a number of UK and US investors and is expected to start trading again this week.
Transatlantic Vacations managing director Geoff Medhurst led a buyout of the ticket agencies which folded in January following the collapse of parent company Suncoast. The company has been relocated from Hammersmith to Transatlantic’s Horley base.
Medhurst said a number of individuals have invested in the operation but declined to reveal details. “Hotelshop and Ticketshop were operating profitably and were brought down by the problems of its parent company in Florida,” said Medhurst. “I saw it as an opportunity and three or four other parties with an interest in the US and Florida also invested.”
He stressed it would be run independently of Transatlantic Vacations and would be fully bonded. “We have retained one or two of the former staff but are now interviewing for someone to spearhead the operation,” added Medhurst.
Former director of sales and marketing Elizabeth Fox is believed to be in talks with the investors. Medhurst said it is looking at whether bookings will be honoured where deposits have been paid.
