Ryanair jumps the queue to unveil plans for summer ’99

RYANAIR is the first major Stansted-based airline to declare its strategy for the summer.

From April, it is adding services to Frankfurt, the Italian cities of Genoa, Ancona and Turin, and French resorts Biarritz and Dinard. As usual, prices will be very competitive, with Frankfurt leading in at £69 return, Biarritz at £99 and Turin £119.

The airline’s choice of Frankfurt is sure to draw a response from British Airways subsidiary Go and Stansted new entrant Lufthansa, which will be determined not to lose market share on flights to its hub airport.

When Go started Stansted-Munich flights in December, Lufthansa responded quickly by launching services on the same route with identical prices. Lufthansa and its partner SAS, which also started Stansted flights in 1998, have yet to reveal their plans for the Essex airport, but Stansted predicts more airline services.
