UK airlines denied access to congested US airports have been boosted by the news that slot rules at New York’s JFK and La Guardia and at Chicago O’Hare will be eliminated by 2004.The USDepartment of Transportation has sent a bill to Congress saying the restrictions are a barrier to new entrants and harm competition.



n BA cuts commission for first-class us sales



British Airways has cut 2% off commissions for US agents booking first class, business class andConcorde tickets. Rates drop to 5% for business class and to 3% for first and Concorde bookings.Economy ticket bookings remain at 10% commission



n BAA passenger rate goes up almost 10%



BAA’s seven UKairports handled a total of 7.6m passengers in January, up 7.3% on the same time in 1998.
