Connect euro savings to reduce rates

CONNECT Car Rental claims it will be able to pass savings on to clients when it starts trading in euros this summer.

The car-rental broker has partners in all of the 11 countries that have introduced the euro.

Managing director Adrian Duthie said Connect would be able to quote rates and pay them in the new currency.

“We will only have to run one foreign currency account instead of several, saving time and transaction charges,” he said. “The savings we make will be passed on to our customers, as we hold down our prices.

“As 80% of our business is in Europe, the change will be quite significant.”

The remaining 20% is split equally between the US and the rest of the world.

Duthie predicted that the euro would equalise prices in different countries, as having one currency makes it easier to compare rates.

He added: “There will be pressure for prices to come down, as car-rental firms attempt to maintain a competitive edge.”

Hertz has already adopted the euro, giving customers renting in Europe the option of paying in the new currency. A euro currency conversion tool can be found on Hertz’s Internet site at: www.hertz.com
