O’Leary’s not nearly so lairy – but agents better be wary

ISRYANAIR’s brash chief executive Michael O’Leary getting tired of bashing his favourite target – British Airways?

The evidence from a typically barn-storming Ryanair press conference would suggest that he is.

Backchat has attended many a briefing by the vocal O’Leary and had to spend much of the time with fingers plugged in ears as the Irishman effed and blinded throughout as he slagged off the hapless BA.

So, last week’s City press conference proved a bit disappointing.

Sure he talked up his latest batch of low fares, wowed the audience with tales of being bigger than Virgin Atlantic and British Midland combined and boasted how great his Web site is.

But there was no swearing and O’Leary’s attacks on BA were most restrained. He confined himself to gently joshing the so-called world’s favourite for upping prices and sidelining economy passengers.

Could it be that BA is struggling so badly, O’Leary cannot be bothered with it anymore?

Instead, he vented his fury on agents and suppliers of global distribution systems for costing him money, even falling into the old trap of telling agents to embrace the Internet or go out of business.

It seems BA has slipped out of Ryanair’s sights and they are now firmly fixed on unfortunate retailers.
