Thai pledges future to Star
THAIAirways president Thamnoon Wanglee has pledged his airline’s future to Star Alliance following months of speculation it was leaving.Wanglee also virtually ruled out any non-Star Alliance carriers being given a stake in Thai.
The carrier was unhappy that Asian rival Singapore Airlines was being admitted into Star Alliance but Wanglee claimed that any differences were now in the past.
Wanglee backed a joint Star Alliance bid for a 10% strategic stake in the airline.
“I hope Star members buy into Thai,” he said.
The alliance is to put together a joint bid, with SIA and Lufthansa taking the lead. Qantas and Swissair are also expected to make an offer to Thai.
