Silversea launches brochures to boost sales
Bookings update
Silver Cloud and Silver Wind: hoping for more Christmas bookings following the brochure launchesReport by TANYA JEFFERIES
SILVERSEA Cruises is launching three dedicated brochures to stimulate bookings for its Christmas and New Year, Australian/New Zealand and South American programmes.Vice-president of sales and marketing Steve Odell admitted bookings were not as strong as anticipated over the Christmas and New Year period.
“Christmas is traditionally a good time for us to generate business but it’s been a little slow, which is why we brought out the brochure,” he said. “The cruises are expensive and that’s a challenge. But we are selling 16-day cruises over both Christmas and New Year on an all-inclusive basis and there are not many of those around.”
A 16-day cruise on Silver Wind from Costa Rica to Los Angeles starts at £6,838 per person.
The Christmas and New Year brochure has already been published and the new Australia/New Zealand and South America brochures are due to follow shortly.
Odell said Silversea aimed to promote the land content of its Australia/New Zealand programme on Silver Cloud in the first quarter of next year.
He claimed that the South American programme on forthcoming new ship Silver Shadow was selling well in the run-up to Christmas but the company felt that a brochure would give its early 2001 cruises a lift.
Odell said UK bookings overall were 10%-15% higher than at this point last year but there was still spare capacity left in the fourth quarter. Silversea is set to launch two new ships – Silver Shadow in Spetember and Silver Whisper in June. Each vessel will have a capacity of 388 passengers.
