Turkey optimistic of future sales growth
I write in response to the article on First Choice and its 2001 programme to Turkey, saying that it was not seeing a recovery in bookings to Turkey this season (Travel Weekly April 24).I was disappointed to read the problems we faced last year are still seen to be haunting us.
We are looking at this year to be a recovery period and predict that next year, we will see a growth of more than 20%of holidaymakers from the UK market.
The Turkish Tourist Office has invested heavily inco-operative marketing projects with the major operators and we have already seen operators increase their weekly flights for this summer.
In addition, this year is looking good for us, the flights are full and the hotels are reporting a steady stream of bookings. We are spending £1.8m on advertising and a further £500,000 on working with our partners.
Furthermore, the Turkish Tourist Office is sending more than 600 agents to Turkey this year so they can see for themselves just how unaffected by last year’s troubles the country is.
We are aiming to send more than one million UK holidaymakers to Turkeythis year but in order to do this we need to stop looking back and ensure we all work together.
