Virgin Voyages and Ponant ease Covid measures

Virgin Voyages is to start welcoming non-vaccinated passengers on its ships from this weekend, while Ponant has scrapped its testing requirement.

Non-vaccinated passengers can sail on Virgin Voyages vessel Valiant Lady from September 18 and Scarlet Lady from September 21.

The two-ship line said passengers who are not vaccinated will be required to present a negative test result taken within 72 hours of departure.

It added passengers who fail to take a test will need to take one at the port terminal for $30.

Meanwhile, French line Ponant has removed its requirement for guests to provide proof of a negative Covid test prior to embarkation.

It now requires passengers to either have three vaccine doses, two doses of the vaccine providing the second has been taken within nine months of embarkation, or one vaccine dose taken more than two weeks prior to the sailing.

A test is only mandatory if it is required by the country’s authorities, said Ponant, which added passengers would be able to test on board.

Face coverings are no longer compulsory but the line recommends they continue to be worn on ships and ashore.

Crew who come into contact with guests will still have to wear a mask, the line added.

Ponant said extensive measures such as tests, mask wearing and quarantine could be introduced if the Covid risk on board were to increase during a sailing.

It added: “In all cases, Ponant will increase its measures to the level required by countries visited where they may be more restrictive.”
